Opening of a House of Free Thought

Non-governmental organizations EXPEDITIO and ANIMA (Centre for Peace and Women Education) are inviting you to an official opening of the "House of Free Thought" in Kavac. The opening will be held on 24th May 2008 at 7 p.m. The House of Free Thought offers various programmes for individuals or groups that are interested in alternative interdisciplinary educational programmes, methods of work and education.

STUDY: STREET FURNITURE AND VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS FOR THE WESTERN SUBURB OF HERCEG NOVI

In order to increase the visual harmony of the Old Town ambience, the Agency for the construction and development of Herceg Novi has commissioned EXPEDITIO to design a study that will propose solutions for street furniture and visual communications for the western suburb area of Herceg Novi. The aim of the study is to make the Old Town ambience more attractive through standardizing the elements of street furniture.

MEETING OF the SEE HERITAGE NETWORK IN ALBANIA, Berat

June 21st-23rd marked an exceptional meeting of cultural heritage NGOs working in the South-East European region. Representatives hailing from 11 NGOs – Albanian National Trust, Butrint Foundation/Albanian Heritage Centre, and MJAFT! Movement from Albania; Cultural Heritage without Borders, Regional Office from Bosnia Herzegovina; PRO TORPEDO from Croatia; EC MA NDRYSHE from Kosovo; Centre for Cultural Heritage Projektor, EXPEDITIO Centre for Sustainable Spatial Development and Notar Centre for Preservation and Promotion of Kotor Documentary Heritage from Montenegro; and FRACTAL and Civic and Association SUBURBIUM from Serbia– arrived in Berat, Albania on Saturday to kick off the fifth SEE (South-East European) Heritage Network meeting. The goal of this conference was to discuss how these organizations, through the further development of the network, could jointly contribute to the preservation and promotion of the region’s rich cultural heritage as a tool for sustainable and responsible development.

The SEE Heritage is a network of cultural heritage NGOs working in the South-East European region. The SEE Heritage network aims to raise awareness about different issues and problems concerning the cultural heritage in the region. The network members are 13 partner NGOs from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia.

LETTER TO UNESCO: CULTURAL LANDSCAPE DEVASTATION IN LIPCI

Enclosed you will find a copy of the letter that nongovernmental organizations EXPEDITIO and MANS sent today to UNESCO in reference with the interventions in the settlement of Lipci situated in the Bay of Boka Kotorska. We thought it very important to inform UNESCO considering that these interventions cause serious devastation of the cultural landscape within the area inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAMME: INTEGRATED URBAN PLANNING

A representative of EXPEDITIO participated in the international training programme “Integrated Urban Planning” which took place in Karlskrona and Stockholm (Sweden) between September 9 and October 8, 2008. The programme was conducted by Hifab International and Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) and supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Hifab International is one of Sweden’s leading companies in the field of urban development and is providing consultancy services in a number of related fields both in Sweden and in developing countries all over the world. BTH is Sweden’s principal University in terms of urban planning and sustainable development.

The second part of the programme will be held in the Republic of South Africa in February 2009.

RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT FOR DUKOVIĆ PALACE, HERCEG NOV

In October 2008 Expeditio was engaged to design a project for the reconstruction of “Duković” Palace in Herceg Novi. The work was commissioned by the Foundation “Duković”. In 1990, as an illustrative example of the 19th-century profane architecture and because of its cultural and historical values, the Endowment of Aleksandar Duković was registered as a third category cultural monument and recorded in the Central registry of immovable cultural monuments of Montenegro. The project will be finished by the beginning of 2009.

Southeastern Europe Alumni retreat workshop

Between 20 and 23 November 2008 Kotor hosted a “South-Eastern Europe Alumni Retreat Workshop” organized by the Quebec-Labrador Foundation (QLF) / Atlantic Center for the Environment. The workshop gathered former participants in QLF’s study programmes and representatives of institutions from South-Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro), as well as international organizations that could be potential future partners in QLF’s regional projects. The workshop was organized with the support of Expeditio.

Odavno sam nešto obećao, ima tome evo već godina i nešto, i evo došlo je vreme da obećanje i ispunim, govoreći o mestu u kome sam proveo godinu dana. Razlog zašto se ranije nisam oglasio jeste da najpre nisam poznavao stvari dovoljno, a kada sam ih upoznao, već je bilo kasno, jer sam izgubio svaki kritički stav i sopstvenu objektivnost. Isto kao što pišući i govoreći o Beogradu, u kome sam rođen i odrastao, ne mogu da budem objektivan, tako ni o Bratislavi, u kojoj sam proveo godinu dana, ne mogu da budem objektivan. Nadam se da cu uspeti da zadržim ipak neki stepen pristojnosti i da će ovaj moj putopis uspeti da vas natera da razmislite o tome da posetite ovaj grad, koji, generalno gledano, i nije predaleko od ovih naših krajeva...

Razmišljajući o tome šta da napišem o Brnu, gradu na jugu Češke Republike, koga sam ove godine posetio u dva navrata, shvatio sam da šta god napišem neće biti dovoljno da izrazi ono što sam osećao dok sam istraživao i upoznavao se sa istorijom i kvalitetima Brna.

FEASIBILITY STUDIES AND BUSINESS PLANS FOR BUILT HERITAGE

In the framework of the component B of the European Commission/Council of Europe Joint Programme on the Integrated Rehabilitation Project Plan /Survey on the Architectural and Archaeological Heritage (IRPP/SAAH), feasibility studies and business plans are being prepared for three cultural properties in Montenegro: Kosmač Fortress, Building of the former French Embassy and Fortification Besac. In Montenegro the project is implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media. EXPEDITIO is a member of the management group responsible for the preparation of the said documents.

PARTICIPATION IN THE CONFERENCE OPERATION: CITY 2008

At the beginning of December 2008, a representative of Expeditio participated in the international conference "Operation: City 2008" which took place in Zagreb, Croatia. Operation: City 2008 is a series of events that summarizes joint activities of Zagreb’s independent cultural scene in fields of cultural production, urban development, spatial policy, cultural policy and citizen participation. Operation: City 2008 gathers activists, artists, experts, theoreticians, as well as broader public and re-examines spatial and social changes of a modern city.

PARTICIPATING IN THE PROCESS OF PREPARATION OF THE MANAGEMENT PLAN OF CETINJE

Arhitektonska analiza palate Šestokrilović u Perastu

U drugoj polovini 2008. godine EXPEDITIO je angažovan od strane vlasnice palate Šestokrilović u Perastu da uradi arhitektonsku analizu palate. Ova analzia je trebala da posluži kao osnova za izradu projekta rekonstrukcije palate, s obzirom da palata Šestokrilović do sada nije istraživana a da predstavlja jednu od značajnijih palata u Perastu.

MEMBERSHIP IN THE WORLD HERITAGE COUNCIL

The national commission for cooperation with UNESCO has formed a World Heritage Council. A representative of EXPEDITIO is one of the Council’s members. The duty of the Council, as a specialized, expert and advisory body of the Commission, is to follow UNESCO’s programmes in the respective area and propose activities to the Commission. The World Heritage Council started with its activities at the beginning of December 2008.

STUDY VISIT: MULTI-CULTURAL DIALOGUE, Brussels

1-4 December 2008, in Brussels, Belgium, the European Commission hosted a study visit for the civil society representatives from the Western Balkan countries and Turkey. The theme of the meeting was “Multi-Cultural Dialogue. EU legislation and actions in the field of culture and heritage”.

U prilogu mozete pogledati primjedbe na aktuelne studije lokacije za nekoliko lokacija u Boki Kotorskoj. Ove primjedbe su dostavljene nadleznim institucijama na drzavnom i lokalnom nivou. Primjedbe na nacrt studije lokacije za sektor 15. i 16. (vezano za lokacije "Fjord" i "URC") su otvorene za potpise gradjana/ki.

Brisel stopirao Prostorni plan Crne Gore

Podgorica, Vijesti - Vlada Crne Gore povukla je iz skupštinske procedure Prostorni plan nakon komentara koji su na taj izuzetno znacajan dokument stigli iz sjedišta Evropske komisije iz Brisela, potvrdeno je "Vijestima" iz Vlade. Prema nezvanicnim informacijama, komentari eksperata Evropske komsije(EK) stigli su u Podgoricu prošlog petka, dok je Vlada odlucila da Prostorni plan povuce u ponedjeljak.
