Inspired by the novel «The Diary of a Tree» /Le Journal Intime d'un Arbre/ by the contemporary French author Didier Van Cauweleart, the artist Izabela Matoš named her sculpture «Tristan». Tristan is a pear tree, more than three hundred years old, given that name by people, connecting thus metaphorically the fates of nature, space and men.
The sculpture, as a free standing installation, was modeled from old newspapers using a papier-mâché technique. The final phase of the sculpture involved a decorative painting work, which was done together with the children participating in programes of the francophone organization “Avenir” from Herceg Novi, as well as talented children attending the classes in different painting and applied art techniques led by the sculpture author.
The sculpture “Tristan” invites people to think about the principles of sustainable development – using renewable energy sources (leaves in the form of wind turbines), environmental protection (recycling), involving local people of all ages in creative activities that contribute to the community development (children painting “the tree”), etc.
"How sad to think that nature speaks and mankind does not listen." (Viktor Hugo)
“Tristan" was installed in the park between the Post Office and the "Park" Hall on Saturday, 22 December, at 12 o'clock. Come to see it...
