From 1 to 10 September 2012, an international workshop entitled “Agriculture, Landscape and Economic Development” was held in the village of Gornja Lastva, Tivat. The workshop was organized by the Petrović Njegoš Foundation and NGO “Cultural Heritage Association NAPREDAK Gornja Lastva“, Tivat, in cooperation with NGOs EXPEDITIO from Kotor and Green Home from Podgorica.
The aim of the workshop was to research, in the village of Gornja Lastva, the Municipality of Tivat, spatial potentials for the development of agriculture as an economy branch, agriculture as an instrument to preserve the cultural landscape and agriculture as an instrument to protect the space from unnecessary construction and fires. The village of Gornja Lastva can serve as a good model for the Montenegrin hinterland.
The immediate objectives of the workshop were to:
- Encourage landowners and local government to renew agricultural activities at Vrmac Mount, as part of the tourism offer of the area
- Preserve and promote Vrmac Mount as cultural landscape
- Contribute to the activation and promotion of Vrmac Mount as a Nature Park, which has been recognized as such in the Spatial Urban Plan for Tivat
The workshop participants were the final year students from the Faculty of Agriculture in Paris and Podgorica, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics - Department for Biology in Podgorica, as well as their professors and expert associates.
