The Conference entitled “Discussions on the Future of the Environmental State – toward the third World Summit on Sustainable Development Rio+20” was held in Podgorica on 18 December. The Conference was organised by the National Council for Sustainable Development. The representative of EXPEDITIO attended the Conference acting as the Deputy President of the National Council for Sustainable Development.

The National Council for Sustainable Development, chaired by the Prime Minister, is comprised of 23 representatives of all social structures. On the occasion of 20^th anniversary of the adoption of the parliamentary Declaration on the Environmental State of Montenegro, the Council developed and adopted the Analysis of Accomplishments and Challenges of the Environmental State of Montenegro. After it was adopted by the Government, the Analysis was referred to the Parliament for further consideration. The Analysis gives an insight into the circumstances surrounding the adoption of the Declaration, points out the main accomplishments and challenges in its implementation during the past two decades, and provides the list of recommendations and guidelines for revival and strengthening the idea of environmental state. During the discussions, the participants evaluated the Analysis and considered it within the concept of green economy – sustainable development and poverty reduction. This concept is one of the two major topics to be dealt with in the third World Summit on Sustainable Development to be held in Rio De Janeiro in June 2012.
