ICOMOS works for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage places. It is the only global non-government organisation of this kind, which is dedicated to promoting the application of theory, methodology, and scientific techniques to the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage. Its work is based on the principles enshrined in the 1964 International Charter on the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites (the Venice Charter).
According to ICOMOS statute, the work of the organization in countries that are member states of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will be conducted through a National Committee, in cooperation and support from ICOMOS.
The Founding conference of the ICOMOS National Committee for Montenegro will be held on 25th June 2009 in a Gothic salon of the Regional Institute for Heritage Protection, Drago Palace in the Old Town Kotor, beginning at 12.00.
The conference will be attended by cultural heritage conservationists from Montenegro, as well as ICOMOS representatives, Katri Lisicin (Sweden), Juka Jokileto (Italy) and Todor Krstev (Bulgaria).
