Non-governmental organizations EXPEDITIO and NOTAR from Kotor, on behalf of the SEE (South East European) Heritage network, are organizing a SEE Heritage network meeting & Workshop “Devastation of Cultural Heritage” in Kotor, Montenegro on 8-10 February 2008. The project is being realized within the East East Program: Partnership Beyond Borders of the Open Society Institute, through the support of the Foundation Open Society Institute – Representative Office Montenegro.
The SEE Heritage network is a network of cultural heritage NGOs working in the South-East European region. The initiative to establish the network was started by the Swedish organization Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB), Regional office in Sarajevo in spring 2006. The members of the network are twelve partner NGOs from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia. (Soon, an official website of the network will be set up.)
The SEE Heritage Network aims to raise awareness about different issues and problems concerning cultural heritage in the region.
In addition to the network meeting, the workshop on devastation of cultural heritage will be organized. Devastation of cultural heritage is a crucial problem when heritage of Montenegro, as well as of other countries, is concerned.
The workshop will consist of the following activities:
• Presentations on heritage devastation in the participants’ countries, followed by discussions
• Field workshop/seminar – mapping zones of heritage devastation in Boka Kotorska
• Drafting a joint public appeal
Within the workshop, a press conference and a Public presentation of Cultural Heritage of the participating countries will also be held.
The workshop participants are the SEE Heritage network members, new members from Croatia, heritage NGOs from Asian countries, state institutions and non-governmental organizations in Montenegro concerned with heritage protection, as well as media.
