Invitation to screening of “The Venice Syndrome”, 1 November 2016 at 20.00, Kino Boka, Kotor

We invite you to screening of the documentary film “The Venice Syndrome” (director Andreas Pichler), on Tuesday, 1 November 2016, at 8 p.m. at Kino Boka in Kotor. The film tells about the effects of mass tourism, particularly the huge number of visitors from cruisers, to everyday life of remaining Venetians. The film will be screened translated into Croatian language, and the entrance is free.

Although the film was already screened in Kotor, in April 2014, its topic is still of interest for the town.

This film was presented at the Berlinale, DOK Leipzig, Festival Dei Popoli, Italy, DocVille in Belgium and at the festival DocAviv in Israel.

After the movie projection, a discussion can be held in order to talk about the experiences of citizens and the challenges of increasing volume of tourist visits (especially those from cruisers) with which Montenegro, as an increasingly popular tourist destination, is facing. The idea is to discuss, from various points of view - economic, environmental and social, the challenges of balancing the economic development with other qualities and values of life in local communities.

The film will be screened on the occasion of World Cities Day (31 October).

The screening of “The Venice Syndrome” in Montenegro is the result of cooperation between Expeditio Kotor, Cultural Centre “Nikola Djurkovic” Kotor, and NGO Kinookus, from Dubrovnik.

The film screening is made possible through the project StroNGO, which is funded by the European Union, under the IPA 2014 CSF Programme.
