After last week’s visit of the delegation of Dubrovnik-Neretva County to Tivat, presentation of the joint cross-border project “Heritage-Driver of Development” continued in Dubrovnik today.
This project, implemented at a bilateral level, began in March 2013. Welcoming the members of Montenegrin delegation the prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Mr. Nikola Dobroslavić, emphasized the project’s value in the context of EU funds, from which about 70 million kunas was obtained during the last two years and several new projects, about 460 million kunas worth, submitted for funding, with a significant contribution of the Regional Development Agency DUNEA.
Presenting the project pilot area of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Director of the Physical Planning Institute, Ms. Marina Oreb, pointed out that the selected project aims to protect the cultural and natural identity of Dubrovnik outside the city walls. “A landscape management plan for the whole Croatia, although necessary, has not been drawn up yet despite the fact that Croatia is a signatory of the European Landscape Convention, which is biding document for us. Therefore, we consider it extremely important to thoroughly and additionally examine and analyze all the elements of landscape, as well as protected areas, so that this project results in a comprehensive outcome, while, at the same time, taking care to additionally raise public awareness of cultural and natural heritage,” said Ms. Oreb. Just to remind that the aim of the project “Heritage-Driver of Development", which will last until February 2015, among other things, is to establish cooperation in applying new methodologies of protecting and managing the natural and cultural heritage. In Montenegro, Mount Vrmac, as a Park of Nature, is the project pilot area.
